Mbappe, Barcola Lead PSG Past Tricky Sociedad Side

February 15, (THEWILL) – Real Sociedad presented Paris Saint-Germain with a stern test on valentine’s day before the French side claimed a 2-0 first leg advantage in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. While PSG were expected to cruise past their La Liga opponents, Sociedad put up an impressive fight in the first half at the Parc des Princes.

Led by Takefusa Kubo and Andre Silva, Sociedad created several dangerous chances and controlled possession for stretches of the match. Kubo found openings behind the PSG defense while Silva came close just 30 seconds into the match. Mikel Merino also rattled the crossbar with a thunderous strike before the break.

However, PSG’s star-studded attack eventually broke through. Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring just after half-time after a clever corner routine freed him in the box for a clinical finish. Bradley Barcola then secured a 2-0 advantage with his first ever UCL goal.

While Sociedad presented problems, PSG extended their unbeaten home record across all competitions to 14 matches. The Parisians now hold a solid advantage heading into the second leg at Anoeta Stadium in March.

For Sociedad, the loss leaves them with plenty of work to do back in Spain. After an impressive showing, they will need to dig deep to try and overcome the 2-0 deficit against a PSG side with sights firmly set on finally tasting European glory.
