March 05, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan bounced back from a recent loss to secure their place in second position after comfortably defeating Lecce 2-0.
Goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lautaro Martinez sealed the win, reducing the gap between them and league leaders Napoli to 15 points. The pressure was on Inter to win, and despite missing some key players, they were able to rise to the challenge.
The match got off to a promising start with Hakan Calhanoglu and Alessandro Tuia both testing the keepers early on. However, Inter were the ones who successfully notched a goal, thanks to a brilliant team move finished off by Mkhitaryan.
Lecce had a few chances of their own, but it was Inter who ultimately dominated the game, with Martinez scoring the second goal of the match eight minutes after the match resumed from the interval.
The win was a much-needed boost for Inter, who had suffered a surprise defeat to Bologna last time out. With key players still out, they will be hoping to continue their good form when they take on Spezia in their next game. Meanwhile, Lecce will host Torino as they continue to fight for survival in the league.
