Late Luvumbo Goal Cancels Out Osimhen Opener As Cagliari Holds Napoli

February 25, (THEWILL) – Napoli’s winless away run in Serie A extended to six matches as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Cagliari at the Sardegna Arena. Victor Osimhen opened the scoring for the visitors with his 10th league goal of the season, but Zito Luvumbo’s dramatic equaliser in injury time snatched a point for the relegation-threatened Sardinians.

The match was a tense affair from the start, with both sides creating chances but lacking clinical finishing. Osimhen had a close-range header saved early on, while Gianluca Lapadula missed a golden opportunity for Cagliari. The first half ended with Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret being floored in a collision with Lapadula, but Luvumbo spurned a free header from the resulting set-piece.

After the break, Napoli finally took the lead through Osimhen, who headed home Giacomo Raspadori’s cross. However, Cagliari refused to give up and was rewarded in stoppage time when Luvumbo latched onto Alberto Dossena’s through-ball and fired past Meret.

The result leaves Napoli in 9th place, four points off the European places. Cagliari remain in the relegation zone but are now just one point adrift of safety.
