Denmark Books Spot At Euro 2024 After Win Over Slovenia

November 18, (THEWILL) – Denmark has secured their place at the Euro 2024 tournament after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Slovenia in Copenhagen.

Goals from Joakim Maehle and Thomas Delaney ensured the Danes will be playing in Germany next summer. The hosts took the lead in the 26th minute when Maehle finished off an inswinging cross at the far post.

However, Slovenia equalised just four minutes later through an Erik Janza free-kick. The match remained tight and tense until Delaney controlled and slotted home in the 54th minute after a flick-on by Jannik Vestergaard.

With the win, Denmark tops Group H and joins the likes of England, Spain and Italy who have already qualified for Euro 2024. Slovenia’s loss means they are still vying with Kazakhstan for the second automatic qualifying spot from the group.

In another important result, Albania secured progression to their second ever major tournament after a 1-1 draw with Moldova despite conceding late on. Elsewhere, the Czech Republic’s 1-1 draw in Poland means Group E’s second spot is still up for grabs.
