August 12, (THEWILL) – Harry Kane has completed his highly anticipated transfer to Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, after posting an emotional farewell message to Tottenham Hotspur fans.
The England striker sealed a €100m move to Bayern on Saturday, ending his 19-year playing career with Tottenham. In an emotional video posted on social media ahead of finalising the deal, Kane thanked Spurs fans for their support over the years and said he felt it was the right time to seek a new challenge. “I wanted to be the first to tell you Tottenham fans that I will be leaving the club today,” Kane said. “There have been so many great moments and memories that I will cherish forever.”
Kane leaves Tottenham as their greatest-ever goalscorer, having netted 280 goals across all competitions. He won the English Premier League Golden Boot three times with Spurs and was named in the PFA Team of the Year five times. But at 29 years old, he felt it was time to move on to win major trophies.
“I felt like this was the time to leave. I didn’t want to go into the season with a lot of unresolved future talk,” Kane explained. “I wish Ange [Postecoglou] and all the boys the very best of luck. Honestly, I’ll be watching from a fan point of view now and I really hope the team can be successful.”
Bayern Munich will be hoping Kane can help deliver more silverware to the Allianz Arena. The Bavarian giants have won the last 10 Bundesliga titles in a row and will expect the prolific striker to fill the void left by Robert Lewandowski, who left Germany for Barcelona last summer.
Kane closed his Spurs farewell by thanking fans around the world for their support over the years. “It’s not a goodbye because you never know how things will pan out in the future, but it’s a thank you and I’ll see you soon,” he said.
