December 09, (THEWILL) – Lawyers representing Concerned Northern Forum, have threatened a court action against the Federal Government if it fails to provide adequate compensation, for the victims of the aerial military bombardment in Tudun Biri, Kaduna State.
THEWILL had reported that scores of villagers celebrating Maulud were killed and several others injured in an aerial military bombardment in Tudun Biri community, Ligarma village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna, on Sunday night.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for accountability, with many demanding a transparent investigation and compensation for the victims.
Speaking on behalf of the forum on Saturday, Nafi’u Abubakar, pledged to ensure justice for the families who lost loved ones and property in the incident.
He stressed the urgent need for a thorough and impartial investigation to determine the cause of the bombing and hold those responsible accountable.
“The federal government, must act swiftly and decisively to guarantee a comprehensive and impartial inquiry into this occurrence.
“It is imperative that those responsible are held accountable for their actions, and measures are put in place to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future”, said Abubakar.
The Forum, urged the Nigerian military to review its rules of engagement and training procedures to minimise civilian casualties during operations.
They emphasised the need for the army, as a protector of the nation, to exercise utmost caution to avoid collateral damage.
The forum, which boasts over 600 members, expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
Abubakar, who declared the Forum’s commitment to ensure justice for the victims, said it will work tirelessly to pursue legal avenues to secure the compensation owed to those affected by the tragedy.
