March 07, (THEWILL) – Former gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State, Professor Sandy Onor, has urged stakeholders of the party to remain steadfast, saying PDP remains the best alternative.

Professor Onor gave the charge during a stakeholder meeting he convened in Calabar, Cross River State capital, to interface with his supporters.

He said though there is hunger in the land, the grass may not be as green on the other side as they think.

“I plead with you all to remain calm. We do understand the situation on ground and do know that there is hunger in the land. But we should be steadfast instead of defecting at this crucial time.

“We know there is hunger in the land and even in APC there is also hunger. There, the grass may not be as green as you think. I, therefore, urge everybody to remain calm as we strategies to reposition the party,” he said.

Also speaking, a former deputy governor of the state, Efiok Cobham, told stakeholders to put the loss of the party in the last elections behind them.

He said they should try and constitute themselves into a proper and credible opposition so that they can take the party again from the ground.

“We have lost and we fought up to the Supreme Court. I advised that we put it behind us. Now only our party can give us hope because when there is no hope, all is gone.

“We should try and constitute ourselves into credible opposition and that is the only way we can be recognised.

“Now, in APC, fixing street lights, and patching roads have become a big achievement. We should have our back against the wall by giving credible opposition.

“The leadership should better wake up. They should go back and see how they can take the party again from the ground,” he said.

Speaking, another leader in the party, Ogban Ebock, said hunger is everywhere even among the ruling party. He charged his colleagues to work together so they can achieve success in future, saying, “We must be resolute to resist bad governance and intimidation.”

Other stakeholders who attended the meeting include Authur Jarvis, Mike Ania, Chief Mark Obi, Ntufam Ekpo Okon, the youths, women and support groups.
