Tinubu, Alia Laud Akume’s Political, Administrative Qualities

December 28, (THEWILL) – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State have acknowledged the steering qualities and contribution the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has made in building the nation.

President Tinubu, who made the remarks during the Thanksgiving Service in honour of Akume held at Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State on Wednesday, said such qualities need to be emulated by other Nigerians.

Represented at the occasion by his wife, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, the President said the appointment of Senator Akume as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) was a testament to the vast experience he acquired in the course of duty.

On his part, Governor Alia described Senator Akume as the political living encyclopaedia of Benue politics.

Governor Alia made the description at Wannue during the reception to mark Akume’s 70th birthday anniversary and homecoming at Tarka Local Government Area of the State.

He said God has blessed Akume in several ways, especially with the knowledge of Benue politics, adding that he was the maverick of politics in the State.

“You are the political living encyclopaedia of Benue politics. Let me encourage people to always come to you to study State politics,” he said.

He said Senator Akume has the love of Benue State at heart, has already paid his dues and deserves all the respect.

“Today, we celebrate a living political encyclopaedia. He has paid his dues and deserves all our respects. He is the maverick of our politics,” he stated.

Reacting to the appeal of Bishop Isaac Dugu earlier during his sermon, Governor Alia admitted that the Bishop touched on the core issues that bordered on the development of the State.

He enjoined all National, State Assembly members and all stakeholders in the State to join him to support Senator Akume to succeed as Secretary to the Government of the Federation so that together they would build a better State.

“I invite you all to join me to join Senator Akume to take Benue to a greater height. It is all about the State and not about us. Those who want to sow seeds of discord will not succeed for the things that unite us are greater than things that seek to divide us,” he said.

Responding, Senator Amume said the killings in the country have reduced since the assumption of office of Mr. President.

According to him, the Federal Government was doing everything possible to end insecurity in the country, assuring of his continuous efforts to ensure that Benue was united for better development.

He described President Tinubu as a great Nigerian who was at home to everyone and urged Nigerians to love one another.

He commended all those who have over ten years supported him and those who identified with him at his 70th birthday anniversary and prayed to God to grant them their heart desires.

Speaking on behalf of the National Assembly Members, Mr Philip Agbese representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency disclosed that the NASS members did not hate Governor Alia, but expected him to work with them to bring development to the State.

“We never said you are not doing well. All we asked is that let’s work together to bring development to the State. You can be better than what you are currently doing if we work together. You are a Priest, we don’t hate you and not against you,” he said.

He said Sen Akume was a selfless politician who lived all his life for the people and that his best was yet to come.

Other personalities that graced the occasion include Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Ministers, Senators, APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, and Ambassadors amongst others.
