March 09, (THEWILL)- In a one-sided performance, Bayern Munich reignited their Bundesliga title challenge by thrashing relegation-threatened FSV Mainz 05 8-1 at the Allianz Arena. The resounding victory extended Mainz’s winless away league run to 17 matches as the Bavarian giants closed the gap on leaders Bayer Leverkusen to seven points.

The hosts made a blistering start, taking the lead through Harry Kane’s tap-in after Jamal Musiala’s clever lay-off in the 13th minute. Six minutes later, Kane’s headed effort came back off the woodwork, allowing Leon Goretzka to double Bayern’s advantage. Despite Nadiem Amiri’s sensational strike reducing the deficit, the hosts regained their two-goal cushion before half-time through Kane’s deft finish.

Bayern maintained their ruthless streak after the break, with Thomas Muller scoring from close range two minutes into the second half. Musiala, Serge Gnabry, and Kane, with his hat-trick goal, compounded Mainz’s misery as the scoreline spiralled out of control. Goretzka’s late header capped off an emphatic victory for the Bundesliga giants.

Mainz’s 15-year stay in the German top-flight appears increasingly precarious, with Bo Henriksen’s side now nine points adrift of safety with a game in hand. For Bayern, despite conceding for the seventh consecutive league match, the commanding win offers renewed hope of a 12th successive Bundesliga title under departing head coach Thomas Tuchel.
