December 23, (THEWILL) – Former Barcelona and Uruguay national team striker, Luis Suarez, has signed with Brazilian club Gremio for the upcoming 2023 Brasileiro season.

Suarez will don the iconic number nine shirt, a jersey he has worn with distinction for both club and country throughout his career.

Gremio, based in the southern city of Porto Alegre, has a rich history in Brazilian football. The club won the Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club competition, as recently as 2017 and reached the FIFA Club World Cup final that same year.

However, they were unfortunately relegated to Brazil’s second division in 2021 for the first time in 17 years. They did not stay down for long as they earned swift promotion back to the top flight in the recently concluded 2022 season.

Suarez joins a list of notable footballers, who have featured at Gremio, including Brazilian icon, Ronaldinho and current Liverpool loanee, Arthur. The 2023 Brasileiro season is set to kick off in April, and fans are excited to see Suarez lead Gremio’s charge for success on the pitch.
