Alia Appoints Eight Man Benue State Independent Electoral Commission


March 14, (THEWILL) – Governor Hyacinth Alia has forwarded to the Benue State House of Assembly, for confirmation of names of eight nominees to serve as Chairman and Members of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).

A statement released in Makurdi, on Thursday, named Dr John Chen as Chairman, Terhemen Shom was Member 1, Mr Theodore Iordye as member 2, Mr Solomon Aikighe Deva as member 3.

Other members are, Mr Isaac Edache, as member 4, Mrs Gloria Clement as member 5, with Peter Baba Ogagbolo, as member 6, while Dr Vincent Gisaor is to serve as member/Secretary of the Commission.


Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, So Tersoo Kula, who signed the statement, quotes the governor as saying the nominees have been considered suitable based on their track records and will be responsible for the conduct of elections into the Local Government areas in the State.

He charged them to be fair, just and always consider the interest of the state above theirs in the discharge of their duties and wish them best of luck in their new assignment.

THEWILL recalled that Dr John Chen had served as the Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, for ten years during the George Akume administation.
