March 10, (THEWILL)- judDanny Ings fired West Ham to a dramatic 2-2 draw against former club Burnley, on Sunday, his first English Premier League goal in over a year. The substitute striker netted a late equaliser at the London Stadium after the Hammers had trailed 2-0 at halftime to Burnley.
West Ham made a dreadful start, falling behind to a David Datro Fofana rocket after just 11 minutes. The on-loan Chelsea forward beat Nayef Aguerd and Kalvin Phillips, before thundering a 25-yard strike past Alphonse Areola. Konstantinos Mavropanos then turned a Josh Cullen cross into his net to double Burnley’s lead before the break.
The introduction of Edson Alvarez and Michail Antonio transformed West Ham’s performance in the second period. Lucas Paqueta halved the deficit within a minute by pouncing on sloppy Burnley play. Mohammed Kudus spurned a golden chance before Ings had a goal ruled out for offside.
Still, the ex-England man made amends deep into injury time, turning home Kudus’ pass to level. Ings almost won it in the dying seconds, rattling the crossbar with a fierce drive after a barmy game.
While Phillips and Jarrod Bowen struggled to impress watching England boss Gareth Southgate, Ings underlined his quality with a vital cameo to rescue a point for West Ham.
