March 13, (THEWILL) – Lobi Stars defeated Rivers United FC 3-2 in a thrilling Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) Round 25 match on Wednesday.
Samuel Tiza Iorwuese opened the scoring for Lobi Stars in the 10th minute before Ukeme Williams equalised for Rivers United. Alao Danbani’s penalty gave Lobi Stars a 2-1 half-time lead.
Kumaga Suur extended Lobi Stars’ advantage to 3-1 in the 58th minute. Mark Gibson pulled one back for Rivers United in the 82nd minute to make it 3-2, but time ran out before they could find the equaliser.
The win kept Lobi Stars at the top of the NPFL table with 46 points from 25 games. Rivers United remain in 16th place with 28 points, as their domestic form continues to remain at variance with their impressive showing in the CAF Confederations Cup competition.
It was an entertaining, back-and-forth match between the two sides, with Lobi Stars just managing to edge out Rivers United despite a late fightback from the visitors.
