March 13, (THEWILL)- The world’s fastest-growing and most innovative sports league, the Professional Fighters League (PFL), has signed a media rights deal with South Africa’s SuperSport. The partnership will bring all PFL and Bellator programming to SuperSport channels across Africa. This move expands the PFL’s global reach as it continues its rapid international expansion.
The deal kicked off with fans in the region tuning into the opening event of the 2024 PFL Europe Season, on March 7. Global superstar Cedric “The Best” Doumbe took on Baissangour “Baki” Chamsoudinov at the Accor Arena in Paris. Going forward, all PFL programming, including live PFL PPV Super Fights, PFL Europe and the newly announced PFL MENA, will be available on SuperSport.
In another major development, the PFL is set to launch its third international league – PFL Africa – in 2025. Through an exclusive partnership with Francis Ngannou, the mixed martial artist and boxer became an equity owner and Chairman of PFL Africa. Events will be staged live in primetime across key African countries to meet the growing demand for premium MMA content.
“Sub-Saharan Africa represents a priority market for the PFL as we continue our rapid global expansion”, said PFL SVP International, James Frewin. “We’re thrilled to partner with SuperSport so viewers can watch premium PFL and Bellator MMA content all year round.”
The PFL boasts an impressive roster, with 30% of its fighters and those of Bellator independently world-ranked in the top 25 of their weight classes. With its sports-season format, proprietary SmartCage technology, and broadcast reach of 150 countries, the PFL is building the “Champions League of MMA.”
