Serie A club Lecce have announced the appointment of Luca Gotti as the interim coach until the conclusion of the current season.
This decision comes following the dismissal of Roberto D’Aversa, who was relieved of his duties after an altercation with an opposing player during last weekend’s match against Hellas Verona. The incident occurred following Lecce’s 1-0 home defeat on Sunday.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, Lecce confirmed the appointment of Gotti, stating: “Lecce announces that the technical management of the 1st team has been entrusted to coach Luca Gotti. The coach has signed an agreement until June 30, 2024, with renewal in the event of avoiding relegation.”
Gotti brings substantial experience to the role, having previously managed Udinese and served as the head coach of Spezia last season. However, his tenure at Spezia was cut short when he was dismissed from his position with the club facing relegation trouble after 22 games.
As of now, Lecce occupies the 16th position in the Serie A standings, with 25 points to their name, just one point above the relegation zone. Their next fixture is an away match against bottom-placed Salernitana scheduled for Saturday.
The appointment of Luca Gotti marks a pivotal moment for Lecce as they strive to secure their position in the Serie A and navigate through the remainder of the season under new leadership.
