March 11, (THEWILL)- Real Madrid displayed their superiority in La Liga with a convincing 4-0 victory over RC Celta de Vigo at the Bernabéu. Despite the absence of Jude Bellingham, Los Blancos extended their lead at the summit to seven points, while Celta’s alarming form continued, with just two wins in their last nine league matches, leaving them perilously close to the relegation zone.
The home side started brightly, with Eduardo Camavinga testing Vicente Guaita on two occasions. Their dominance paid off just after the 20-minute mark when Antonio Rüdiger’s header from a Luka Modrić corner was saved, but Vinícius Júnior was on hand to poke the rebound past the Celta goalkeeper from close range.
Former Real Madrid manager Rafa Benítez, rumoured to be clinging to his job at Celta, adopted an attacking approach in an attempt to get back into the game. However, his forwards were profligate in the final third, with Iago Aspas and Luca de la Torre squandering opportunities as Madrid comfortably held their lead at the break.
Celta approached the second half with more caution, resulting in fewer chances for both sides. Federico Valverde and Rodrygo went close for Real Madrid, but it was not until the 80th minute that the home team doubled their advantage. Rüdiger’s thunderous header cannoned off the crossbar and deflected in off the unfortunate Guaita.
The visitors’ misery was compounded in the closing stages as a miscommunication between Guaita and Carlos Domínguez led to the latter turning Vinícius’ cross into his net. Arda Güler then marked his first Real Madrid goal, rounding the goalkeeper after Dani Ceballos’ through ball.
The emphatic victory extends Real’s unbeaten home run to 19 matches and maintains their sizable lead over surprise challengers Girona, while Cádiz’s win over Atlético Madrid cuts Celta’s gap to the drop zone to just two points.
